Within the BIOTRONIK Group, CORTRONIK, based in Rostock-Warnemünde, is a centre of expertise for the development and production of stents – tubes which support arteries and which are used in the field of medicine. In this sector of the industry, BIOTRONIK is the market leader in some countries and has developed, among other devices, the first biologically expandable metal stent. Meanwhile, the company – which was founded in 1998 in the Warnemünde technology centre – has around 200 employees, most of whom work in the high-technology R&D area. CORTRONIK works very closely with research institutes throughout the region, particularly with the University of Rostock.
